Heals

For those of you who are a little bit anal about the kinds of things that you place in your home, this little find is definitely for you!
Heals is a modern contemporary furniture, lighting, accessories and gifts site! and it definitely hits the spot when it comes to making a statement and just generally being a little bit quirky! They have even invented a light bar where you can customise your light from the type, bulb, fitting, colour of the chords ect! Its CRAZY! and super cool!

I know when I move out (well from uni) and when I have some money burning a hole in my pocket, I will certainly be heading over to Heals!

From Tuscan inspired rustic oak tables to bulbs as big as your head, Heals really fits into the uniqueness of the HERE AND NOW! The recyclable, retro but still modern, industrial, hipster vibe that everyone is striving to gain within their homes.

Not only this, but in general their VM for the way they market their products is just amazing. You can tell that a lot of time and thought goes into the collation of objects that surrounds the product, making it all the more appealing to the customer. Its not like the normal ikea website where the products are all against a white background and its up to you to imagine the rest. They give you a taste of what you home could REALLY be like!!

I would take a look at their site, even if you're just looking for some home interior inspiration!

Burberry Talk

I can safely say that today was one of THE most inspirational talks I have ever had.
NTU were lucky enough to have a Q & A with Greg Stogdon - Burberry's Senior VP of Creative Media!
He talked to us about how he came all the way from not even being sure whether he wanted to do anything to do with fashion to where he is today...
His journey started at Central Saint Martins where he liked art and had an idea of design, however he didn't think very highly of the fashion world itself. He explains that it wasn't till he had a talk with Paul Smith himself in 1997 that he decided that the fashion world might be for him. Paul Smith reassured him that "You can be normal in the fashion world'.

He then worked full time for a small independent magazine called 'Tank' at the same time as being a full time student at CSM. It wasn't till his graduation project became global that his path was really set for him.

He moved to New York with no job and no where really to live, and managed to land himself a job within a week at Visionare - Logo work.
He initially worked a lot outside of fashion.

When he came back to the UK he was approached to work at Lang Crawford which is basically Selfridges but BIGGER and in Hong Kong, and they encouraged him to start his own company.

Following his he was called up by a headhunter for Burberry, after years of emailing them and receiving no reply, he finally got one!
He redraw the logo and fonts and started to create an internal aesthetic, and collate his own team! He created Burberrys Facebook page, and they were the first luxury brand who were on Facebook.
Within 6 years there was a massive transformation, the company spoke internally for themselves, they didn't hire agencies to do the job, they did it themselves - Internal design team were created.

Since then their digital scene has just exploded, with projects such as the holographic film in Beijing, The Art of the Trench, Burberry acoustic - promoting new artists and Kisses project with google.

Technology is at the forefront of their brand

After 5 weeks of long hard work, the Rick Owen's presentation has been done, with some shaking hands and nervous words I got through it and actually...it wasn't too bad :) here are our presentation slides that were shown while we explained more of Rick Owen's brand essence and our new concept.

The Journey of Chloé

For this project we have been assigned a brand of which we now need to collate images relating to that brands past and present, to create a mood board signifying Chloé's visual identity and brand DNA. From doing much research on the brand (which I genuinely really enjoyed) I found that the brands main elements were:

Femininity
Youthfulness
Free-Spirit
Gaby Aghion
Nude
Independence of Women
1952 - Parisian Fashion
Timeless
Flirty
Floaty
Capricious
Maature
Subtle
The Roundness of 'O'

The Visual Journey

The Final Outcome

Young at Heart sums up the Chloé aesthetic perfectly

London Trip, Brand Research

When we first came across the shop on South Audley Street it reflected the complete minimalist personality of the Rick Owens Brand. The simplicity of the store and the Black and White aesthetic was shown throughout.

Unfortunately when enquiring about the brand in store, the staff were quite dismissive of us as students and wouldn't reveal any background or present information on the brand or allow us to use any photography inside. However, despite initially feeling as though this was a hinderance we actually found it useful when thinking about what we could do for our new creative idea.

Luckily we visited the Rick Owen's concessions section in Selfridges on Oxford Street offered us some more insight on the brand and allowed us to take photos.

In a nutshell, our primary research consisted of:

- Rick Owens was born in 1962 in California

- He began his career as a pattern cutter, therefore being skilled and aware of fabric quality. He then went on to work for a fur company where he met his wife Michelle Lame who became his muse and designer of his clothes

- His brand started off as an underground brand, it then became more of a niche, leading it onto the catwalk as a couture brand

- His clothes were first seen at Paris fashion week where Kate Moss wore one of his jackets!

Collections

Rick Owens has 3 types of collections:

Dark Shadow

This brand is the cheapest of the 3, but by all means is not cheap. It uses less leather and expensive fabrics and more denim. It is not as luxurious and more casual.

Lily's

This collection is more mid market within the luxury hughstreet and consists of Rick Owens knitwear collections.

Mainline Rick Owens

This is the most expensive and luxurious of the 3, it is couture, the types of clothes that would be seen on the catwalk shows and worn by the more Avant Garde.

As you can see from the pictures, the 3 collections are easily recognisable from their tagging, of which also follows the same suit in standard of the collection.

Creative ideas for the future of Rick Owens are to come...

Fashion Marketing Principles

THE 7P'S - aka GOD!

Marketing is pretty much everything:

- Creating
- Communicating
- Delivering
- Exchanging

It is there to create an experience that connects with people and their personalities in order for them to share that desire with others, leading to consumer repeat.

One very simple way to create an idea of the fashion marketing you are analysing is the7P's, here is an outline of the types of things that go into each P...

You can use this simple method to get started when analysing fashion marketing, it works for both high street and luxury brands
